Meandering Mold Project Description

Welcome to my Garden Library. It is a living laboratory where groups of books slowly decompose between logs, offering stage ‘sets’ for ephemeral fungi and meandering mold. This once forgotten part of our property is a garden built on layers of leaf litter, household detritus, compost and grit. The books serve as edges, containing the fertile soil. For the past two years I have documented these objects as they “melt” into the earth.

Recently, I felt compelled to cultivate a more intimate relationship with them by removing them from their “shelves” and exploring what they contained. The images in this collection reveal what I found and are a thematic continuation of previous work which similarly focuses on decomposition.

There is nothing more beautiful to me than the regeneration, transformation and renewal that occurs in so many unseen places. This work feels like a message from the future and the past converging now in this small shady garden at the end our yard, inviting exploration, curiosity and wonder.
